The award was established by the resolution of the Department’s Management in Frebruary 2003. The aim was to promote a librarian especially active in the
enviroment, whose work has essential meaning to the development of theory and improving librarian and information practice and what is
more, popularizing books and the development of culture. Accepting the resolution about this award was to emphasize this connection because it was Helena Śmigielska who competently linked theoretical reflection with great organisation of
practice.
The rules of the contest:
The Chapter of the Award considers motions which should be sent until 1st February each year
Handing the prize over (the money and the diploma) takes place on The Librarian Day each year
The criteria of awarding the prize:
- the development of the reading
- organising reading entertainments
- taking part in all-polish reading entertainments
- using unconventional forms of working with a reader
- organising cultural entertaiments promoting a library
- taking care of the development of his or her qualifications
- sharing own knoledge and experience with other librarians
